Why UTM consistency matters more than the tool itself

UTM parameters are just five URL query string fields, but the value comes entirely from using them consistently — analytics platforms group traffic by the exact source/medium string, so "Facebook" and "facebook," or "cpc" and "paid-social," silently split what should be one reporting channel into several fragments. This tool exists mainly to enforce one convention per platform rather than to save typing: pick a preset, and the source/medium fields autofill with the values we use across our own accounts, so a campaign tagged today reports the same way as one tagged six months from now.

The lowercase-and-dash sanitization toggle exists for the same reason — a stray capital letter or space (which URL-encodes as %20) is the single most common way a campaign accidentally becomes two rows in a report. Recent links are kept only in this browser tab's memory for your convenience during a single tagging session; nothing is saved to your device or sent anywhere, so refreshing the page clears the list.

For the WhatsApp preset specifically: remember that UTM tags belong on the link leading a user to a WhatsApp conversation (a bio link, a landing page button), not on the wa.me link itself, since WhatsApp doesn't read query parameters.
