If your goal is a genuine commercial presence — advertising, selling, tracking what's working — a personal account is a dead end. It's fine for individual creators; it is not a viable business tool.
What a Malaysian company needs to apply
- SSM business registration certificate. Form 9 / Certificate of Incorporation for a Sdn Bhd, or the Business Registration Certificate for a sole proprietorship or partnership. The business name must match the brand name on the account being verified.
- Brand authorisation letter if the applying entity differs from the registered trademark holder (common for agencies applying on a client's behalf, or multi-brand corporate structures).
- Trademark documentation where applicable — Malaysian trademark certificates from MyIPO are accepted, and are effectively required in categories with high impersonation risk (beauty, fashion, pharmaceutical-adjacent).
- Business contact details — phone, email and address consistent with your SSM registration.
- All of the above submitted in Chinese-language format — the review team operates in Mandarin, which is where most Malaysian applications stall without help.
How long it takes
Straightforward applications from established businesses in clear categories typically clear in 1–3 weeks; applications needing extra documentation, or in more scrutinised categories, can run to 4 weeks or more. The single biggest driver of delay isn't the platform's queue — it's incomplete or incorrectly formatted documents triggering a request-more-info loop. Getting the submission right the first time is worth more than any other factor you control.
What to do about it
- Confirm your SSM registration name matches the brand name you're verifying.
- Gather trademark documentation now if your category carries impersonation risk.
- Budget 1–4 weeks, and don't schedule a campaign launch against day one of submission.
- If Mandarin-language correspondence is a blocker, use a verification service rather than risking a rejected or stalled application.
