What an affiliate program is, for a brand
Affiliate marketing is performance-based: the brand pays a partner for a sale or another tracked action, not for a post. ACCESSTRADE, a network that operates in Malaysia, describes the action as a sale, a lead such as a registration, a call or a download.
Search for affiliate marketing Malaysia and most results are written for people who want to earn. This guide is for the brand that pays: which programme to use, how to set commission, how to track it and what the rules say about disclosure.
Partners come in a few types. Shopee Malaysia has listed social media influencers, coupon and cashback platforms, price comparison platforms and content publishers as its affiliate partners. On TikTok Shop the partners are mainly creators selling in videos and LIVE.
Shopee, Lazada and TikTok Shop: where each programme sits
| Platform | Seller-side programme | What the platform says |
|---|---|---|
| Shopee | Affiliate Marketing Solution (AMS) | Sellers reach affiliate partners: influencers, coupon and cashback sites, price comparison sites and content publishers (Shopee Malaysia, June 2022) |
| Lazada | LazAffiliate (Lazada Affiliate Programme) | An annual US$100 million investment announced in 2025; since July 2026 creators in Malaysia can tag Lazada products in Facebook posts and earn commission on purchases |
| TikTok Shop | Affiliate, in Seller Centre | Open collaboration lets all affiliate creators promote your products; target collaboration works with creators you choose. Sellers pay only when a sale is made |
Commission rates, eligibility and campaign rules are set inside each Seller Centre and change often, so check them there before you plan. We do not quote rates here.
Lazada says opening product catalogues to creators gives brands and sellers a new route to discovery and sales, with Instagram tagging to follow. Plan affiliate pushes around the Malaysian mega-sale calendar, when creator content and vouchers work hardest.
Affiliate networks for your own website
If you sell on your own site, or want leads or app installs, a network brings the publishers and the tracking. Involve Asia says it gives brands access to over 800,000 publishers: creators, content sites, affiliate marketers, coupon and loyalty sites. ACCESSTRADE runs a cost-per-action network in Japan, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore and Malaysia.
impact.com, a partnership platform, sets out six steps for a Malaysian brand: define goals, study competitors' programmes, choose the products, decide commission, choose partners, then choose a management platform.
Designing commission
Set commission from your margin after platform fees and vouchers, not from what a competitor shows. impact.com describes two common structures: a percentage of each sale, or a flat amount per sale.
Reward the creators who sell, not only the ones who sign up. In our published TikTok Shop work, RaeLele used tiered commission and a monthly bonus leaderboard, and Swiss Thomas used tiered commission with monthly prizes for top sellers.
Tracking and what to measure
Read affiliate results from the platform's own reports in your account: orders, commission paid, and which affiliates drove them. Ask an agency or affiliate for those figures from your own Seller Centre, not a screenshot.
The figure that matters is the share of sales coming from affiliates, and the cost per order against your paid ads. In our three published TikTok Shop cases, affiliates produced 44% to 52% of shop sales by the end of the period.
Vetting creators
Check that a creator's audience matches your buyer, look at what they have sold before, and watch for bought followers, views or comments. For health, beauty and supplement products, agree what may be claimed before anyone posts.
For a launch or a product that needs explaining, a paid KOL campaign gives you more control over the message than an open affiliate offer. Our guide to KOL, KOC and UGC explains the difference.
Disclosure and compliance in Malaysia
The Content Code 2022 from the Communications and Multimedia Content Forum (in effect since 30 May 2022) says advertisements must be presented so it is clear they are advertisements, and that paid promotions controlled by the advertiser must be clearly identified. Responsibility falls mainly on advertisers, but influencers and agencies must also follow it.
In August 2026 the Content Forum consulted on draft Influencer Guidelines. The draft treats affiliate links and codes as commercial content, says labels such as 'Affiliate' should not replace a clear 'Ad' label, and asks for livestream disclosures to be repeated. It is a draft and may change after feedback.
When to use creators or live commerce instead
An affiliate program pays only on sales, but you control less of what is said. Many brands run it next to paid creator content and live selling, so the same creators sell in videos and on LIVE.
That is how we run TikTok Shop for brands on our live commerce service: shopping ads, an affiliate programme that briefs creators and pays them on commission, and scheduled live sessions. See also our e-commerce marketing page.
| Case | Active creator affiliates | Share from affiliates | Monthly GMV |

| RaeLele (Apr–Dec 2025) | 65 to 2,100+ | 48% of GMV | Up 5.4× |
