Contribution margin per session, cost per acquired buyer and break-even viewers for Shopee Live, TikTok LIVE or Lazada Live — from your own numbers, not a guessed benchmark.

Quick answer: Contribution margin per session equals returns-adjusted GMV × gross margin, minus the full platform fee stack — not headline commission. TikTok Shop LIVE's stack runs 18.9% of order value all-in plus RM0.54 per delivered order, verified against Malaysian seller rate cards dated February 2026. Select your platform below to preset the fee fields, then enter your own session numbers.

Every field below is an illustrative starting point, not a managed-account benchmark — we don't have verified shakalakaa live-commerce session data yet. Replace each value with your own numbers before treating the output as a real planning figure.

Platform fee stack

Most sellers price against headline commission and miss the rest of the stack. Pick a platform to preset verified Malaysian rate-card figures — every field stays editable.

If a session runs with affiliate creators, TikTok Shop affiliate commission commonly sits in the 5–25% band, seller-set per campaign — leave at 0 if you're not using affiliates. This field is never preset by platform, since it's a seller decision, not a platform rate.

For the full economics reasoning behind these fields, see live commerce metrics in Malaysia and what a live selling session costs in Malaysia. Every term used above — session GMV, watch-to-buy rate, contribution margin — is defined in the live commerce glossary. Modelling a mega-sale session specifically? Discount depth and viewer competition both compress differently around 9.9/11.11/12.12 — see the mega-sale calendar for lead-time guidance and seller playbooks before you commit budget to a specific date.

Why GMV alone is the wrong number

Session GMV is the figure every platform dashboard leads with, and it's also the number that says the least about whether a session actually made money once returns, platform commission, host fee, production cost and paid amplification are counted. Contribution margin per session — returns-adjusted GMV multiplied by gross margin, minus every real session cost — is the number that tells you whether to book the next session, which is exactly why we report against it rather than GMV on every managed engagement.

What this calculator doesn't capture

This isolates session-level unit economics specifically — it doesn't account for fixed overheads outside the listed session costs, audience-building value that compounds across multiple sessions before it shows up in any single session's numbers, or category-level fee variation within a platform (rate cards vary by product category, and the presets above are platform-wide mid-band figures, not your specific category's exact rate). Treat the output as a directional planning figure for a single session, not a full profit-and-loss statement. For the influencer/host rate side specifically, see the KOL rate calculator, which already covers livestream as a content type, and the live host rate index for what a host actually costs. For the run-of-show side — timing and product-block structure before the session — see the live session planner.

Frequently Asked Questions

Returns-adjusted session GMV multiplied by gross margin, minus the full platform fee stack (commission, transaction, programme and affiliate fees, plus any flat per-order fee), host fee, production cost and paid amplification spend — the number left over after every real session cost is subtracted, not GMV alone.
Because a session can fail at either stage for different reasons — a low product-card CTR or add-to-cart rate points to a hook, pricing or voucher problem during the broadcast, while a low checkout conversion after add-to-cart usually points to a checkout-flow or payment friction problem the host can't fix live.
Session-funnel and cost fields are illustrative starting points, not a managed-account benchmark — we don't yet have verified shakalakaa live-commerce session data to draw one from. The platform fee-stack defaults are different: they're sourced from published Malaysian seller rate cards, dated, and shown with a source line — selecting a platform presets them, and every field stays editable.
No — every calculation runs client-side in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent to our servers or stored anywhere.
The number of session viewers at which contribution margin per session equals zero, given your product-card CTR, add-to-cart rate, checkout conversion and platform fee stack — below that viewer count, the session's fixed costs (host fee, production, amplification) aren't covered by the margin on units sold after platform fees.
The total platform cost — commission, transaction fee, programme fees, affiliate commission and any flat per-order fee — expressed as a percentage of your returns-adjusted session GMV. It's usually far higher than the headline commission rate alone: TikTok Shop LIVE's headline commission is around 10%, but the effective take rate including transaction and programme fees runs closer to 19%.
