Amazonas TRX: F&B Social Media in Malaysia, from 45 to 142 Direct Reservations a Month

Social media management and on-location photo and video production for Amazonas, a Latin American restaurant and bar at The Exchange TRX in Kuala Lumpur: fortnightly shoots, 8–10 short videos a month and a nightlife repositioning, measured in video views, followers, direct reservations and weekend occupancy.

The client

Amazonas is a Latin American restaurant and bar at The Exchange TRX in Kuala Lumpur, with a rooftop agave bar on the park level. The menu is built for sharing, and the bar is known for mezcal, pisco, tequila and signature cocktails served in tiki glasses, with DJs on weekend nights.

The problem

A venue inside a new mall is easily read as a daytime place to eat, and Amazonas wanted to be the place people plan an evening around. In the first month of the engagement its Instagram account had about 1,900 followers, its short videos drew about 18,000 views a month, 45 tables a month were booked directly, and weekend occupancy was around 60%.

What we did

  • Fortnightly shoots on location. Studio-style setups for plates and cocktails, and floor shoots during service, with a Sony FX3 cinema camera and Godox lighting kits brought on site.
  • A short-form video engine. 8–10 Reels and TikToks a month, set to licensed Latin tech-house tracks, with guest moments turned into stories the same night.
  • Three content pillars. Close-up woodfire grill work, agave and tiki mixology in the venue's own glassware, and the energy of weekend nights.
  • A nightlife repositioning. A mezcal tasting series to build awareness of the spirits, and Friday and Saturday DJ previews posted ahead of each weekend.
  • The venue as the story. Botanical lighting, the rooftop setting at TRX's park level and the Mayan and Incan motifs in the interior, shot so people can see the room before they book.
  • A short path to a table. A bio link straight to TableApp reservations, with WhatsApp Business for enquiries, so attention turns into bookings the venue can count.

What this means for your restaurant and bar

The plain-language version. In six months Amazonas went from 45 to 142 tables booked directly each month, and its weekends went from about 60% full to 88%. Its short videos were watched close to four times as often, its Instagram following grew from about 1,900 to 5,092, and late-night bar revenue rose 24% — the evening crowd the repositioning was aiming for.

What this says about shakalakaa: we shoot on location every month and run social media management, content creation and video production in-house for restaurants and bars, and we report the work in reservations and occupancy rather than likes.
